UK weather: A new thunderstorm warning has been issued across the country as heavy rain is expected.

A fresh thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of England, threatening to kick off the week for many after the bank holiday on Monday.

The Met Office warned that spray and flash flooding could make driving difficult and lead to some road closures.

Up to 30mm of rain could fall in the worst-hit areas, with some power outages and disruption to rail and bus services possible.

Three yellow warnings for thunderstorms were in place for most of Northern Ireland, Scotland, northeast England and eastern England on Tuesday.

A thunderstorm warning has also been issued for Scotland from 10am to 7pm.

The Met Office said Tuesday would start brightly for many people in northern and eastern England, with cloudy skies and rain expected elsewhere.

Clouds and rain will spread northeastward as the day progresses, with the possibility of thundershowers.

Highs in London and Cardiff were forecast to reach 15C, with slightly cooler temperatures expected further north.

Liverpool and Newcastle were expected to record maximum temperatures of 13 and 14 degrees respectively.

Scattered heavy rain is possible from the evening and will remain mostly cloudy overnight with a risk of further showers, but these showers will be mainly concentrated in the north and west.

Ahead of Wednesday, the Met Office said the general outlook suggests brighter days, albeit with a mix of sunshine and showers.

Some showers will be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, the Met Office added.
