UK weather: Met Office issues gale warning after heavy rain and flooding | uk news

A weather warning for winds has been issued for Wales and south-west England on Sunday after rain fell in parts of England this week.

The yellow warning covers Cardiff and West Wales, as well as most of the south-west, from Weston-super-Mare in the north and the Swanage in the south to Penzance in Cornwall.

It starts at 9 a.m. Sunday and continues until midnight, according to the National Weather Service.

In their warning, they said Sunday would be dry and clear for most of the country, but after that winds and rain would move in from the south-west.

Wind speeds are set to reach up to 55mph in affected areas and 60mph in exposed coastal areas.

The weather service said gusty winds could bring rain, which could cause water to run off road surfaces and cause delays to public transportation.

Winds will then gradually ease over inland parts of Wales and south-west England throughout Sunday evening, but the Met Office warned it could become quite windy along some coasts overnight.

In its outlook for Monday to Wednesday, the Met Office said “unsettled” conditions, including “heavy rain, strong winds and cool temperatures”, would continue into early next week.

“It will gradually brighten in the west from Tuesday to Wednesday,” he added.

It comes after heavy rain and flooding across the UK this week, with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning.

Due to heavy rainfall, counties in central and southern England have already experienced more than 250% of their average September rainfall.

The Environment Agency said around 650 homes were flooded in Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and the Home Counties.

Areas affected by the heavy rain included Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and the West Midlands, which caused flash flooding.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said 30 to 40 mm of rain could fall in the area within three hours.
