The amber warning is set to remain in place for a further four days as freezing temperatures continue to hit the UK.

An orange warning has been extended for Britons to expect cold weather to persist for the next four days as many prepare to experience sub-zero temperatures.

The UK Health and Safety Executive (UKHSA) has decided to extend the warning until Tuesday morning after the Met Office warned of sub-freezing weather sweeping the country until next week.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Situations and Health Protection at UKHSA, said: “This is very important as this weather could have serious impacts on the health of some people, including those over 65 and those with existing health problems. We are continuing to check in on our most vulnerable friends, family and neighbors.

These people may be at higher risk for heart attacks, strokes, and chest infections due to cold temperatures.
