Whitbread has announced closure dates for all Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants across the UK.

All Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants across the UK will close in early September.

Owner Whitbread is undergoing a major overhaul that will see it cut around 3,800 jobs in the UK and Ireland over the next five years, saving £250 million.

We have now confirmed the final dates for the affected restaurants and revealed that all 89 Brewers Fayre restaurants will close after dinner on September 7th.

All 106 Beefeater sites will close on September 10.

Other Whitbread brands such as Bar + Block, Cookhouse + Pub and Table Table will close on September 3.

Whitbread announced plans in April to close all of its separately branded restaurants across the country.

The decision affects about 200 sites in total.

The group is replacing the chain with restaurants inside Premier Inn hotels, which it said are more efficient and “popular with hotel guests”.

It also plans to increase the number of hotel rooms from about 86,600 currently to 96,000 by fiscal 2031.

Whitbread chief executive Dominic Paul said in April: “We are always challenging ourselves to improve and have looked hard at options to maximize value creation over the medium to long term, given the significant cost increases in the form of business rates and national insurance and the implicit market discount to our intrinsic value.”

Brewers Fayre restaurants across the UK will close for good in early September

The closures come after Whitbread announced the closure of 112 restaurants in April 2024. It said at the time that the space would be converted into “more profitable” Premier Inn hotel rooms.

Whitbread is not the only business to say it is being hit by rising employer national insurance premiums.

New figures published earlier this month show Scottish employers pay an average of £890 extra per year in tax to workers on the real living wage (£26,228).

For workers earning the Scottish median wage of £39,879, this figure rises to £1,053.

The SNP, which commissioned the analysis, urged new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to reverse the upward trend.

Company recruitment plans have also fallen to a “record low” as they battle rising costs, according to data from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development published in August 2025.

Premier Rachel Reeves, who brought in tax rate increases and lowered the tax starting threshold in 2024, said the policy was essential to focus funding on vital public services.
