Net Zero is the new remnant and it will destroy Boris' Tories
Net Zero will destroy the administration of Boris Johnson in the same way that Brexit destroyed that of David Cameron. None of Boris' smart advisers and colleagues – neither Dom Cummings nor Michael Gove – seem to have understood this yet. But others can see it coming a kilometer away.
One is the former Conservative and UKIP MP, Douglas Carswell.
I wonder if this net zero commitment will replace Europhilia as the illusion of the ruling classes? Like European integration, the elite obsessed him, using it to put pressure on an agenda with the public. And the public will not wear it.

Another is Lord Ridley, perhaps the most learned figure on the Conservative benches.
As a staunch supporter of this government, I am dismayed by this regressive and environmentally damaging decision to give buddy-capitalist lobbyists the subsidies they need at the expense of consumers. After HS2, Heathrow and stoves, another mistake. https://t.co/fmxRLKB5yp

But the most gloriously overwhelming analysis of the looming Conservative disaster comes from Telegraph columnist Sherelle Jacobs who states that "the political storm around the green targets will be even greater than Brexit".
She is absolutely right.
Here are some highlights one-piece burner:
Beyond the red wall are the rumbles of a new revolt, totally unexpected by No. 10 and overlooked by liberal media still reeling from the election. With its desire to green the economy at all costs, the conservative party has apparently decided to celebrate its populist collapse by bogging down the country byzero carbon paternalism. And so we are headed for another People vs Establishment conflict that could be more explosive than the one triggered by the referendum.
and
It becomes worrying that the government values green targets at the expense of the potential of the British. The cast iron case for a road construction revolution, for example, is hanging on a bit too hard in the depths of eco-political sensitivities. Whitehall is truly convinced thatRed wallutopia bikes from a rabbit hut on the outskirts of Birmingham. They find the idea that people could actually aspire to get to their downtown office from their semi-detached in Dudley, and on weekends, cruise, sunroof, at Bullring for shopping, completely horrible.
Yes. Jacobs is well worth reading because, as a working class Midlander, she understands what ordinary Brexiteers think much better than almost everyone in the Westminster bubble. She described Boris' landslide much more precisely than most commentators because she met on the campaign trail in the Midlands and the North all of these traditional working class voters who had decided to vote for the Tories in order to “ advance Brexit & amp; # 39 ;. .
Note: to "finish Brexit"; don't bog the economy with paperwork, kill jobs, line the countryside with sharp bird eco-crucifixes, raise electricity prices, make driving even more expensive, stop cheap vacations – or even just fly, etc.
If a disturbed sadistic genius had had to devise a most guaranteed strategy to exasperate and alienate the voters of Brexit, Net Zero would be exactly.
This is because Net Zero is, like the EU, the embodiment of what Jacobs calls "the fanaticism of the non-responsible elites".
Just as the EU establishment draws its legitimacy from the teleological assumption that the future is a universalism without borders, the green establishment ready to take its place sees the planet rather that the people as the highest authority. As a result, the country is heading in a direction at odds with the ambitions of ordinary people.
Precisely. Net Zero is the new Remain. The liberal elite who fought so hard to prevent Brexit from withdrawing now have recourse to their second line of defense: the so-called "climate emergency".
This will allow the Remain Establishment to do much the same as when Britain was a member of the European Union: rewarding buddies; increase regulation; increase prices; restrict freedoms; pass like a drunken sailor; crush the little people.
This is not why people voted for Boris Johnson. It represents the most terrible betrayal not only of the aspirations of ordinary people but also of Boris' promises of a vibrant future outside the EU.
We are already seeing signs of rebellion. According to a survey for Sun, almost half of Conservative voting motorists say they will abandon the party in the next election if the Chancellor increases fuel taxes in his budget.
And this is only the beginning. Boris may be an idiot in politics, but he is very good in politics. Hopefully his finely tuned conservation skills will make sense of it before it's too late.
The green agenda directs Britain to disaster.
