Haitian community in Philadelphia resort to prayer after the deadly 7.2-magnitude earthquake | How can you help

Philadelphia (WPVI) – Many Haitians in Philadelphia turned to prayer Sunday after the devastation of a 7.2-magnitude earthquake that shook the Caribbean nation on Saturday.

More than 1,200 people are believed to have been killed and at least 2,800 others injured.

Services at St. William’s Roman Catholic Church centered on the Catholic holiday known as the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, as well as prayers for the families of those lost in the earthquake.

“Haiti is a country that continues to suffer and suffer, unfortunately, but I think the most important thing for me, for Haitians, for all of Haiti, for the whole country, is to keep praying,” said Reverend Eugene. Illuminator.

“The need is to bring in construction workers to rebuild some of the homes, some schools and some churches that were destroyed, as well as bring in people to help clean, as well as distribute food,” she said.

UNICEF says it works with governmental and non-governmental partners to provide support to affected communities.

Officials from the US Geological Survey say aftershocks will likely last for weeks or even months.
