No Vaccines No Jobs: SA Healthcare Workers Have Vaccine Deadlines
Unvaccinated staff employed by SA Health may be locked out of work if they fail to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by the upcoming November deadline.
SA Health has determined that a single COVID-19 vaccine should be given by November 1 if all unvaccinated staff want to continue working.
The instructions, released Thursday, apply to all medical staff and put pressure on many unvaccinated workers.
According to SA police, employees must also provide evidence that they have booked a second dose within a month of the first jab.
This instruction applies to anyone who has a job or obligation in the medical setting.
These include clinicians, ambulance workers, related health care workers, cleaners, administrative and executive staff, and students in place.
Those who submit medical certificates may be exempt from new measures that apply to public and private hospitals and may soon be extended to the entire medical sector.
“Plans are underway to extend this direction to the rest of the healthcare sector, including all other community and private health environments, by the end of next week,” said Dr. Chris McGowan, CEO of SA Health. ..
“This includes general practice, pharmacies, related medicine, dental and private pathology and diagnostic imaging, and the Department of Health and Human Services,” he said.
In September, advertisers reported that only one in five SA health workers, including employees at major hospitals, was vaccinated.
Since then, the updated numbers have not been released.
This was after nearly 12 positive cases were associated with the interstate transportation industry last month, and the vaccination obligations for truck drivers entering South Australia came into effect on Thursday.
All Australian long-term care workers are also subject to compulsory vaccination, where hundreds of people are banned from work after not receiving the jab before the September 17 deadline.
