Magnitude 3.6 earthquake strikes Vellore in Tamil Nadu

Chennai/Vellore, November 29: A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck the town of Vellore, north of Tamil Nadu, early Monday morning, while district authorities said a house in a village sustained some damage, the National Center for Seismology said.

The quake occurred on Monday at 04:17:22 PST at a depth of 25 kilometers and was 59 kilometers off Vellore and about 184 kilometers west of Chennai, according to the Central Statistical Organization of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

According to the Vellore district authorities, the earthquake that covered Mathura Minor Kolaymidu district under Thattaparai village (Gudiatam taluk district) was damaged.

It was a “crack” due to “ground shaking” in the house (ground plus one) owned by 58-year-old J. Selvam. The authorities added that work was underway to verify whether the quake had caused further damage in the area.

But there were no reports of injuries or injuries.
