Philadelphia is having a great summer of comedy, and on Friday, June 17, Tommy Davidson will perform on Earthquake’s Father’s Day Show at the Academy of Music. The multi-faceted artist who came to prominence on the stand-up comedy show “In Living Color” will provide some much-needed laughs.

He has made audiences laugh in films like “Strictly Business” and “Booty Call”, but it is his many impressions that have brought so much delight over the years.

“The only thing I am grateful for is that I had a very good career in the beginning,” how Davidson looks back on the earlier part of his career.

He can currently be heard as Oscar Proud in “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” available on Disney+.

As if that wasn’t enough, Davidson also shares his other talent, music, with his fans throughout his life. He has a song with saxophonist Dave Kouse and it’s currently available on all platforms called “Sweet Reunion”.

Earthquake’s Father’s Day Comedy Show is its first show in the City of Brotherly Love in a long time, and what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than front and center at the Academy of Music.

The multi-talented artist shared his thoughts on his prestigious career and upcoming projects. He started by sharing his latest endeavor “I formed my own company, so now I am starting to develop my own films and TV show,” he said.

He added, “Currently, I am involved in the music industry. I just received my first single in January and the second is coming this summer.” The name of that song is “I Know” with jazz bassist Richard Elliot who was executive produced.

The comedian has shared throughout his life what inspired him to take this new course in his career.

“It worked in terms of timing. Once I wrote the book, it opened up a lot for me. I had a Take 6 in the background, so it was the book that opened up new avenues for me,” Davidson said.

The book he’s referring to is his autobiography Living in Color: What’s Funny About Me.

A wonderful impressionist, Davidson spoke about his role as a proud Oscar in “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.”

“The Proud family is back, louder and proud, and we’ve been picked up for another season,” he stated.

There are few artists who have been able to adapt to the new age of comedy like Davidson. The internet and the political correct had not even been invented when he started his career. Share how he deals with humor in the current context.

“It’s hard to do things as a stand-up comedian because the platforms are shorter. You can be on YouTube for a second, you can be on Tiktok for a second. He explained what it takes to embody a new character in this case President Obama “I heard Obama speak when he first took office. It took nine days before I could do that. All I did was listen to him closely and in a flash, I could speak like him.”
