Travis County Sheriff Office Reports 17 Coronavirus Cases
The Austin-Travis County Sheriff’s Office of Texas reported seven cases of coronavirus in a group of prisoners this week and another ten cases of staff at the Sheriff’s Office.
Two inmates were put in prison as known positive cases, authorities said. Examination revealed that the other four were placed in a symptomatic quarantine station and one prisoner was booked at a local hospital and is still there, officials added.
“Currently, there are three prisoners in positive units confirmed by quarantine,” a Sheriff Office official said in a prepared statement. “Others were allowed to be removed from quarantine by medical staff or released on bail or warrant withdrawal.”
According to advice, 10 new COVID-19 positive cases were found among employees of the sheriff’s office at the Office of Corrections, Law Enforcement and Administration. Officials said staff numbers represent oaths and civilians.
“Quarantine houses prisoners who are experiencing symptoms of a virus-like illness,” officials wrote. “Approximately one-third is asymptomatic and has been quarantined because they either refused to answer CDC guideline questions or because all CDC guideline questions were answered yes, these were cleared by medical staff.
