Two earthquakes occurred in Connecticut on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first earthquake, measuring 1.6 on the Richter scale, struck in Newington on Tuesday. Earthquakes under the size of 2.0 are considered “small earthquakes.”

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck about a mile and a half in Newington at 12:10 pm with a shake that was “weak at best.”

The second earthquake occurred on Wednesday about 10 minutes after Alaska was hit by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that morning, according to the US Geological Survey. The second earthquake on the Richter scale was not recorded in Connecticut, however, seismographs picked up some vibration in the Westport area.

Connecticut has documented more than 115 different earthquakes since 1678, according to the Northeastern Emergency Federation.
