The nine reported deaths on Friday, including two Deschutes county residents of the 90s, are the highest number of deaths reported in Oregon per day since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Mount Official Bend’s Bachelor’s Degree Memory Care confirmed Friday the deaths of two hospice care residents who were virus-positive and had underlying illnesses.

In addition, 11 staff and 13 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, said Malloryda Costa, vice president of regional frontier management. The first outbreak reported earlier this month was positive for more than 30 staff and residents.

“Based on our internal follow-up, we confirmed that these cases were associated with the previously reported first outbreak and not with the new outbreak,” Da Costa said.

“As we test frequently, these numbers are expected to continue to fluctuate,” she writes, and “it is important to note that recovery is not reported until 60 days have passed.

“We are prepared for this and follow protocols from the CDC, state and local health agencies. We have activated all appropriate quarantine procedures for our staff and residents. And we are proactive. Is disinfecting, using masks, self-separating and sanitizing,” said Dakosta.

There are currently 30 cases in Crook County, one dead and 1,408 negative. In Deschutes County, there were 419 cases, 3 deaths and 15,048 negative test results. There were 244 cases in Jefferson County, no deaths, and 2,735 negative test results.

Saint Charles Health System reported 16 COVID-19 patients on Friday for two consecutive days. This is the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic. Authorities said three patients were in the ICU and on the ventilator.
