SBS Insight’s 2014 Creepy Pandemic Forecast

Six years ago, SBS Insight aired a special episode and talked with a panel of virology experts about what happens in Australia’s virtual pandemic.

Clips are recirculating on the internet after the SBS team notices some great similarities to today’s COVID-19 (new coronavirus infectious disease) (# If there is no character limit, add parentheses when first appearing Pandemic—Because it is a respiratory virus, identifying China as the place where the virus occurs, and even the rule of social distance of 1.5m.

But one thing they did wrong was the reaction of the Australian people.

In their scenario, forced isolation with the threat of fines and imprisonment was the last ditch scenario if nobody listened, and they didn’t expect to understand that.

Called Pandemic, this episode aired on September 24, 2014.

“In a special episode, Insight explores how Australia will respond to a hypothetical flu pandemic situation. Are you ready?” Read the description.

Professor Anne Kelso of the World Health Organization was right when she said it was a respiratory illness caused by an animal somewhere in Asia.

“If we were talking about the new bird flu, then most likely it would come from somewhere in Asia,” she told the viewer.

“We have a very dense population of birds that live close to humans, mixed with other animals that can be infected with the influenza virus, such as swine.

“This is a respiratory virus, so it can spread like a wildfire.”

Relation: World War II author eerily predicted coronavirus

Professor Kelso specifically named China as a place where deadly viruses are likely to occur.

“Therefore, the most likely scenario is that the virus will first emerge in one of the larger populations like China,” she said.

Dr. Jeremy Macarturi, then Deputy Director of Health in New South Wales, was almost predicting a 1.5m social distance rule.

“The flu spreads primarily by splashes, so make sure you come into direct contact with someone who has the virus in it, then put it on your face,” he said.

“Or someone is coughing, usually about a meter from you.”

Forced Quarantine “The very last step”

The organizer of the episode, Jenny Blocky, made a sad prophecy about the true nature of humans this year has proven to be true.

“Can you force someone to quarantine?” she asked an expert.

Dr. Rosemary Lester thought it wasn’t necessary.

“We can force them to remain isolated,” she said—as we all know now.

“Each state and territory has public health laws that can require people to take certain actions, including isolation.

“But this is the very last step, and most of the time, people cooperate with the demand for separation.”

Relation: Why Australians can’t stop breaking rules

Professor Kelso also assured viewers that WHO is very quick in identifying viruses.

“It’s easy to see that a new virus has been discovered through that (global) network. We’ll get it right away so we can handle it.”

Sadly, the prediction was not as accurate as we expected.
