The district is beginning to offer Spanish translation when needed. WJCL 22 NEWS's Kieron Nevo is live from district headquarters with more. Good morning, Kentucky. Frank and Emma – I'm told this helps Spanish speaking families the most. Some have had to hire their own translators in the past to have successful conversations. According to the most recent census report in 2020, Chatham County has seen a 66% increase in its Hispanic population since 2010. The district strongly believes that this has increased over the past four years. Savannah-Chatham County leaders shared that they really want to make sure that all families can be supported. “We currently have four bilingual interpreters and translators who travel to different schools to help parents with any needs they may have, whether it’s registration or lunch, or whether it’s an issue with any question or concern at school. We also have what’s called a language line, which is an on-site interpreting service that we call. An interpreter speaks on the line and they translate right there within 30 seconds of us calling them.” The Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools system also provides support for students in the classroom through the English as a Second Language program. The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 1:57 a.m. Thursday, measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale and hitting at a depth of 9.2 kilometers.

Prior to Thursday's quake, the most recent quake in Georgia was a 2.2-magnitude quake in Buford on June 13.
