Sohail Afridi says he will remain KP CM until imprisoned Imran gives new directions

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Tuesday said he would continue to serve as chief minister until he receives a fresh directive from jailed PTI founder president Imran Khan, dismissing speculation about any change in the provincial setup.

Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi, Afridi said the PTI founder had earlier said that no one can remove him. [Sohail Afridi] of the post as long as it remained the choice of the party.

“The founder of the PTI [Imran Khan] said that if Sohail Afridi is chief minister, no power in the world can replace him,” CM Afridi said quoting former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He added, “Until a new message comes from the PTI founder, I will remain the chief minister. »

CM Afridi’s statement comes against the backdrop of a deepening political crisis in the KP wing of the PTI.

According to sources, a vanguard bloc has formed in the party’s provincial ranks, with nearly 30 MPs missing the parliamentary meeting called by CM Afridi on Sunday, an absence widely seen as a calculated show of dissent, The News reported.

The situation was inflamed by intense behind-the-scenes jockeying for the chief minister’s post, with several senior party leaders actively positioning themselves for the post and mobilizing their respective support bases, pushing the provincial political temperature to a boiling point, the report added.

Speaking to the media earlier in the day, CM Afridi said the PTI-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could only be toppled by the party’s founding president and termed reports of an advancing bloc within the party as “propaganda”.

KP CM Afridi also called for Imran Khan to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.

“Our only requirement is that [Khan] be transferred to Shifa International,” Afridi added.

He further urged authorities to allow family members to meet the former prime minister if others did not have access.

Addressing the budgetary issues, the KP chief minister said the provincial cabinet had approved the budgetary documents and the government would present a people-friendly budget.

“We have not planned a budget surplus. We are focusing on health, education, agriculture, youth and forests,” he said.

The chief minister also claimed that reports of an advanced bloc were being circulated to divert attention ahead of the federal budget, which he said would affect all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan.

PTI trains the body

As internal differences within the PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue to intensify, the party has constituted a six-member committee headed by Asad Qaiser to bridge the growing gap between its parliamentary members and the provincial government, The News reported on Tuesday.

According to an official statement issued by the PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secretariat under the signature of the provincial general secretary, the committee was officially briefed and tasked to restore coordination and cohesion within the provincial party structure at the earliest.

The six-member panel includes senior figures from across the legislative and organizational hierarchy of the PTI in the province. KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and provincial general secretary Ali Asghar Khan were included among the core members, giving the committee both legislative status and administrative authority.

According to the official notification, the committee’s primary responsibility will be to serve as a coordination and liaison mechanism between MPs, the parliamentary party and the provincial government, the three tiers of the party structure whose lack of alignment has been the cause of the current internal tensions.
