It’s official: Red Wings Larkin is soft
Anyone who spent time in the inner circle of the Detroit Red Wings heard the rumbling. General manager Steve Yzerman was convinced that his hockey club had a soft heart.

There were also frequent rumors that Yzerman was less than impressed with the hockey acumen of his captain, Dylan Larkin. During the negotiations for Larkin’s new contract, we heard from time to time that things became acrimonious between the captain and the general manager.

“I have no problem telling you, I expect more from him,” Yzerman said of Larkin during his end-of-season media session.
Yzerman recently spoke about his hopes for that Larkin would emerge from the heartbreak of so many failed seasons into the leader Detroit needs to pull the club out of the NHL wilderness.
“As this team improves and we go through these experiences, I think Dylan will continue to improve as a leader,” Yzerman said.
Around the same time, Larkin expressed his desire to be that man.
“I want to be here to help this team win the Stanley Cup in any way I can,” Larkin said.
It’s been about two months now and everything has changed. That desire has turned into a desperate plea from Larkin to escape.
He has asked the Red Wings to trade him.
