Jokowi’s response to the non-arrest of Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa

SOLO, KOMPAS.com – The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) responded to the question of not detaining Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma or Doctor Tifa by the South Jakarta Procuratorate.

“This is the full authority of the Prosecutor’s Office,” said Jokowi in Sources, SoloCentral Java, Tuesday (6/23/2026).

According to him, the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s decision was not to arrest him. Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa must be appreciated.

Jokowi stressed that he would follow the existing legal procedure until the trial.

“We must respect this. The most important thing is that we follow the existing legal procedure until later in court,” said the former mayor of Solo.

When asked if he was disappointed with the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office’s decision not to arrest Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa, Jokowi replied that it was the authority of the Prosecutor’s Office.

“This is the full authority of the prosecutor’s office, yes,” Jokowi said.

Accusations of false diplomas

“The encouraging news is that Roy Suryo and Tifa have not been arrested,” Roy Suryo’s lawyer Refly Harun of the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office said on Monday.

Refly said his client was ready to stand trial even if he was not detained by the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office.

“Later we will think about going to court in the future, so we want to defend it based on what is protected by law and law,” Refly said.

Request for suspension of detention

Roy Suryo and Tifa previously submitted an application for suspension of detention to the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office on Monday during the second phase of their case.

Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa’s lawyer, Abdul Gafur Sangadji, said the application was submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office after the process of handing over the suspect and evidence to Polda Metro Jaya.

“We from the legal team have officially submitted a request for suspension of detention to the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office,” Gafur said.
