Troublemaker games has a figurine of Count Binfaceavailable for £6.50 on their website. Less than a ten dollar coin, including shipping, and a good portion of that goes to charity. I just ordered mine.
For the uninitiated, Count Binface is a character created by a comedy writer and performer. Jon Harveywho is running in British parliamentary and municipal elections as a “joke” candidate. And often chooses high profile seats, or rather seats with a high profile candidate, to attract attention, to mock the political process, politicians and society in general. And stands by their side when the vote is announced live on television. Like a man dressed in silver, with a long flowing cape and a large trash can on his head.
He is often very, very funny, even if not all the interviewers really get the joke. Or sometimes, like with that Sky News reporter, he would rather be somewhere else and talking to someone else.
Well, this week the joke became very real. Nigel FarageMP for the seaside town of Clacton in England, which he won in the 2024 general election, and leader of the right-wing Reform UK party, currently leading in the polls, has been accused of slightly opaque financial dealings and failure to follow parliamentary procedure, which he denies. A parliamentary inquiry is underway, and if he is declared missing, a by-election could potentially be called for his seat, which he could run for again.
Earlier this week, Nigel Farage bluffed, resigned as an MP, said he would stand again and let the people decide. Which also put an end to the investigation. If he wins in a by-election held in early August, the investigation could continue and potentially lead to another by-election later in the year, depending on its outcome. Nigel Farage presents this as an election of the people against the establishment.
Except no one else wants to play. The Liberal Democrats, Conservatives, Labour, Greens and even Restore – a party which left the Reform Party for being too left-wing – have said they will not field a candidate.
Which leaves the floor to Count Binface. And with the leader of the Conservative Party (well known to Bleeding Cool readers) Kemi Badenoch come support Binface, as well as the radical left-wing brandon Owen Jonesit appears to be a Farage v Binface by-election to become MP for Clacton.
In kayfabe, Count Binface is the self-proclaimed leader of the Recyclons from the 5,900-year-old planet Sigma IX. He opposed former prime ministers Boris Johnson, Theresa MayAnd Rishi Sunakas well as the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. Most recently, he opposed the next British Prime Minister, Andy Burnhamin the Makerfield by-election, with 95 votes, placing 7th out of 14, but an election which sounded the death knell for the current Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer. Count Binface’s policies included renaming London Bridge to Phoebe Waller-Bridgeprice capping of Wigan kebabs, London croissants and 99 Flake ice cream, nationalization Adelebuild at least one Death Star and an affordable house, change traffic light times on Liverpool Street, directly link the pay of UK politicians and ministers to that of NHS nurses, abolish VAR, bring back Ceefax, ban the consumption of all noisy snacks in theatres, grant official ‘listed building’ status to Claudia Winklemanto protect it, forcing water company bosses to bathe in rivers where they face sewage pollution, renaming the HS2 rail project to “FFS1” and rerouting the tracks straight into the gardens of rail company bosses, forcing all cyclists who break the highway code to ride unicycles instead. And most famously, he elevated the position of the hand dryer to the gentlemen of the Crown & Treaty pub in Uxbridge. It’s possible he’ll be able to make some of these changes for the first time by August. Until then, I’ll play with my metal figurine of him. As long as I get it in time… the website says;
