A moderate earthquake again shakes Mukomoku district in Bengkulu
Jakarta (Antara) – A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck southwest of Mukumoku district in Bengkulu province early Sunday morning, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency revealed that the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 00.55 am local time, was located 125 km southwest of Mokomoku District at a depth of 27 km.
The earthquake early Sunday did not cause a tsunami, the second time after the 5.4 magnitude earthquake that shook the area Saturday morning.
The agency urged the local population to remain calm while remaining vigilant and to get rid of unfounded issues. Instead, it is advised to stay up-to-date with the information published by the BKMG and other government agencies.
Bengkulu is located on the southwest coast of Sumatra, and is famous as one of the provinces on the island prone to earthquakes and tsunamis. Several provinces in the northern parts of Sumatra are also vulnerable to similar disasters.
According to Deli Serdang Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in North Sumatra province, there were 156 earthquakes that shook the northern parts of Sumatra island from September 25 to October 1, 2020.
On September 30, for example, earthquakes jolted Aceh Barat Daya, Nagan Raya, Benir Meria and Aceh Gaya districts in Aceh province.
Earthquakes regularly shake different parts of Indonesia due to the fact that the country is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, also known as the Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activities.
One of the most violent earthquakes in Indonesia in the past two years was the earthquake that struck several regions in Central Sulawesi Province.
The 7.4 magnitude earthquake followed by the tsunami that struck Palu City, Dongala, Paringi Mutong and Siji provinces on September 28, 2018, killed 2,102 people, injured 4,612 others, and lost 680 others.
A total of 68,451 homes were seriously damaged and 78,994 people were left homeless.
Due to the abundance of rotting corpses, authorities and humanitarian workers decided to bury them in mass graves.
Meanwhile, the material losses caused by the two deadly disasters are estimated at 15.29 trillion rupees.
The capital of Palu County was hit by the brunt of the disaster, with material damage and losses recording 7.6 trillion rupees, or 50 percent of the total estimate, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
Material damage and losses were recorded in the Seiji region at 9 trillion rupees, or 32.1 percent, the Dongala region at 2.1 trillion rupees, or 13.8 percent, and the Barigi Mutung region at 631 billion rupees, or 4.1 percent.
Material damages in the four affected areas amounted to an estimated 13.27 trillion rupees, while material losses amounted to about 2.02 trillion rupees, the agency revealed in October 2018.

One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
