Manitoba announces 7 more COVID-19 deaths and 273 new cases on Sunday

The case fatality rate has increased nine-fold since Thanksgiving. Dr. Brent Russan, the state’s chief public health officer, said Friday that 7.5% of people infected with COVID-19 experienced serious consequences.
Currently, there are 5,728 active cases, including 4,071 from Winnipeg, and 14,805 have recovered from COVID-19. There are 304 people in the hospital, 15 more than Saturday, and 43 in the intensive care unit.
The number of lab tests indicates that 2,145 tests were completed on Saturday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February to 388,356. Case studies will continue and the public will be notified if public health risks are identified.
New test site opens on Monday
1181 Portage Ave.’s mobile test site closed on Friday at 330 Garry St in Winnipeg. The new Walk-in Test Center in Garrick Center will open on Monday and will operate daily from 8 am to 4 pm.
This site has the capacity to run up to 80 tests per day. The new inspection site ensures that individuals living in downtown who may not have immediate access to transportation can still be inspected, public health officials said in a press release.
