Warning: Graphic

A shocking photo shows how a 13-year-old boy sprayed blood on the walls of a hospital when he died of COVID-19 complications after coughing.

The bereaved mother shared a horrifying image of a blood-splattered room to encourage Americans to take COVID-19 seriously.

Stephanie Flanek, 44, was watching doctors fight to save the life of his son Peyton Baumgars after a failed blood oxygenation treatment.

The young man died only six days after the onset of symptoms of the killer infection, when he was extremely tired and his nail bed turned blue.

The two mothers endured the loss of another COVID when their sister Cindy Crawford, 57, died in the ICU five weeks after Peyton.

“One loss would have been painful on its own, but these two have completely crushed our hearts,” said Stephanie, a nurse in St. Louis, Missouri.

Stephanie tested positive for coronavirus on October 25th.

She and her son experienced mild symptoms and began quarantine.

She states: “His symptoms weren’t life-threatening and he did nothing but watch a Netflix movie.”

Four days later, Peyton was unable to continue the conversation and Stephanie noticed that his fingernail and toenail bed had turned blue.

“I said:’Buddy, I think we need to go to the hospital.'”

They went to the SSM Cardinal Glenon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, where Peyton asked for a wheelchair.

Stephanie was frightened when he discovered that his son’s oxygen levels had plummeted to just 44%. The blood oxygen level of a healthy person is 95-100%.

“As a nurse, I have never seen anyone walking or talking with an oxygen saturation of only 44 percent.

“We were probably in the ER for an hour when the doctor decided we needed to put him on a ventilator.”

Stephanie didn’t expect her son to leave the hospital.

Peyton suffered from thyroid problems and asthma, but did not consider him particularly at risk for respiratory infections.

“I was worried he might be on a ventilator, but I thought I would get over this hump and take him home.”

Doctors treated Peyton with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) temporarily removes blood from the body, allowing red blood cells to be artificially oxygenated and carbon dioxide to be removed.

His condition suddenly deteriorated on Saturday, October 31, when he began to bleed.

“He had this big coughing attack and basically started bleeding in his chest.

“The surgeon was trying to replace the ECMO and had a very weak pulse and very low oxygen levels, so he was doing CPR to help blood circulation.”

When the doctor desperately tried to replace the ECMO tube on Peyton’s neck, the blood that had accumulated in his chest was sprayed onto the wall.

“It’s everywhere in the cardiothoracic surgeon, and he just kept working,” Stephanie said.

Given the special permission to be hospitalized like Covid, Stephanie watches 10 nurses and 4 doctors fight for 1 hour and 15 minutes to save their son’s life and tell the time of death. I did.

“I never expected this to happen,” Stephanie said.

“I haven’t heard of children getting infected with Covid and it’s so serious.

“I was just shocked.

“I can’t explain that sudden catastrophic loss.”

In addition to Stephanie’s pain, her trauma registrar sister Cindy came with Covid a week before Thanksgiving.

She also had a ventilator and received ECMO, but died on December 7.

“I’m having a hard time getting out of bed and exercising every day,” Stephanie said.

She said the only positive thing was the reunion with former boyfriend Chris Rodman, 43, whom Peyton worshiped.

“He was very close to Peyton. I called him and told him that Peyton had died and he was devastated.

“We are back together. He has supported me a lot. He was here for me at every moment I needed.

“I think it was Peyton’s wish and a gift from Peyton that brought us back. He didn’t really want us to break up in the first place.”

Stephanie paid tribute to his son and said that in 13 years some people had made more friends than they had in their lifetime.

“He was the sweetest boy and made everyone smile.

“In his 13-year life, he made more friends than anyone would make if he lived to the age of 85.”

Stephanie talks about his son’s death, hoping that Americans will take Covid seriously and follow health guidelines.

“I hope people take Covid more seriously and don’t say it’s a political agenda, some kind of fake news, or the same as the flu.”

“We were very careful,” she said.

“If we’ve been anywhere, we always wore masks, always washed our hands and used hand sanitizers, but we still got Covid.

“Our mind is directed at all healthcare providers who are fighting this at the forefront every day.”

Dr. Maria Strand, Chief Medical Officer of SSM Health Cardinal Glenon Children’s Hospital, said: “Despite the recent availability of vaccines, it is clear that our community needs to continue to use appropriate precautions and precautions to protect vulnerable people.

“Masking, careful hand hygiene, and physical distance are pillars of prevention during this pandemic. These principles are important not only for young and healthy people, but also for the elderly and the weak.”
