Florida adds more than 17,000 coronavirus cases in 2 days
Florida announced more than 17,000 cases of coronavirus on Saturday. This is a cumulative data for two days, as the state did not report the number on Christmas day.
With the addition of 17,042 cases on Saturday, the total number of state-wide infections since March is 1,264,588. The state also announced an additional 142 deaths from the virus.
Throughout the state, 21,437 people have died of the coronavirus. The average weekly death toll is reported to be about 107 deaths per day.
vaccination: As of Saturday, 113,946 people in Florida have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to a report from the Florida Department of Health. The number increased by 20,869 from Thursday.
All vaccinations are first dose and are primarily intended for people between the ages of 25 and 64.
In Tampa Bay, 23,295 people are vaccinated. In Hillsboro, there were 8,867 vaccinations, including Pineras 8,832, Pork 1,959, Manatee 821, Pasco 2,105, Hernando 499, and Citrus 212.
Miami-Dade and Broward County continue to lead the state in most vaccinations, followed by Orange County and Hillsboro.
Hospitalization: Approximately 5,500 people throughout the state have been hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of coronavirus, according to the Healthcare Administration. About 1,100 of those patients are in the Tampa Bay area.
The number of cases that led to hospitalization increased by 196.
Approximately 31% of hospital beds and 23% of ICU beds are available throughout the state. In Tampa Bay, about 30% of hospital beds and about 24% of ICU beds are open.
Positive: The average weekly positive rate in Florida is about 9%, According to Johns Hopkins University. This is one of 47 states that does not meet the World Health Organization recommendations for positive rates below 5%.
If the positive rate is too high, it may indicate that the community does not have enough extensive tests to catch mild and asymptomatic cases. If those cases are not identified, they will spread further. Testing across Florida remains high, with over 110,000 tests processed daily in the last two weeks.
City number: Tampa Bay added 3,393 coronavirus cases and 18 deaths on Saturday.
Seven of the dead were reported in Pineras and one was recorded in Hernando. Citrus, Hillsboro, Manatee, Pasco and Pork all recorded two deaths each.
Pork leads the region with the highest average weekly positive rate of 11%, followed by Hillsboro and Pasco at 10%, Hernando at 9%, Citrus at 8%, and Manatee and Pineras at 7%.
As of the latest count, Hillsboro has 73,980 cases and 1,065 deaths. The number of cases of Pineras is 42,973 and the number of deaths is 1,027. Pork has 35,393 cases and 770 deaths. Manatee has 21,277 cases and 414 deaths. Pasco has 20,919 cases and 356 deaths. The number of cases of Hernando is 6,981 and the number of deaths is 265. The number of citrus cases is 6,359 and the number of deaths is 252.
