Amtrak Borealis launched, connecting Chicago and Twin Cities – NBC Chicago

Tuesday marked the launch of Amtraks' new Borealis service, giving residents of Chicago and the Twin Cities another daily travel option between the two cities.

According to Amtrak officials, the total trip between the two cities will take just over seven hours via the Borealis, offering passengers views of Wisconsin's rolling hills and farmland, as well as stops at several notable areas underway of road.

Among these stops are Milwaukee, as well as La Crosse and Wisconsin Dells, a popular tourist destination during the summer months.

The train departs from Chicago's Union Station and stops in Glenview before heading to Wisconsin, making several stops along the way. After crossing the Minnesota state line, the train stops in Winona and Red Wing before ending its trip at St. Pauls Union Depot.

There is a coffee service on board the train and Wi-Fi is also available on some journeys.according to the Amtraks website.

Coach seats are available starting at $40 one-way, according to the agency's website. Business class seats will also be available for purchase, according to officials.

Amtrak also offers intercity service on the Empire Builder Line, which serves Seattle, Washington.
