Bollywood court rejects Shilpa Shetty’s plea against the media – News

The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s plea to prevent the media from publishing information about her and her husband Raj Kundra.
According to India Today, Shetty went to the High Court on Thursday, accusing media and social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube of posting slanderous content about her on their platforms.
Judge Gautam Patel said that what Shilpa Shetty seeks in his plea “would have a chilling effect on press freedom.”
“Reporting something based on what the police said is not defamatory,” he added.
Shetty had objected to some media channels broadcasting information about his collapse when Mumbai police officials took Raj Kundra, accused of producing and distributing pornographic films, to their home for weekly searches. last. His lawyer, Biren Saraf, argued that the reports were “something that happened between a husband and his wife, and should not have been reported.”
“You (Shetty) have chosen a public life. Your life is under a microscope,” retorted Judge Patel.
“First, the articles saying that she cried and fought with her husband when her statement was recorded are not defamatory. It shows that she is a human.”
The judge clarified that “no part of this order (should) be interpreted as a gag order on the media. I am not making any order, but this is not a denial of provisional or ad-interim measures” .
However, Justice Patel clarified that none of the reports could refer to the parenthood of the couple’s children.
“This party is protected by its right to privacy under the broad protection recognized by freedom of the press to be balanced with the right to privacy.”
