Navin Tar files police complaint, urges public to be careful of download links

Singer-actor Navin Yavapolkul has filed a police report against online scammers after losing more than 5 million baht in cryptocurrency when he uploaded a link to an app on a blog.

The actor, better known as “Navin Tar,” met with investigators from the Technological Crime Suppression Division at the Central Bureau of Investigation Complaint Center on Friday afternoon.

Navin said he was keenly interested in cryptocurrency investing and when he saw a blog claiming investors could check their returns, he was curious to learn more. He said he read the details because the blog seemed reliable, like a news site.

The blog also contained a link to an app to download. But after clicking on the link, he discovered that 40 Ethereum (ETH) digital currency, which he had held for seven years and was currently worth around 5.2 million baht, had been transferred from his wallet.

Navin holds a doctorate in economics from the University of California, Davis. He taught economics at Kasetsart University before venturing into the entertainment industry.

“I don’t expect to get my money back, but I just hope my case serves as a warning to people to be extremely careful when clicking on various links,” he said.

“I myself have quite a bit of knowledge and immunity, but I was a victim of negligence, which resulted in a loss.”

The police questioned him and collected evidence to submit to their commander for further action.
