Construction underway on interim housing at the West Hollywood Holloway Motel
Construction is well underway at the West Hollywood Holloway Motel property located at 8465 Santa Monica Boulevard. Photos show construction vehicles at work Wednesday afternoon. Demolition is well underway inside the motel and appears completely gutted. This update brings the project closer to serving the community as Holloway’s interim housing program.
The City of West Hollywood acquired the Holloway Motel property on April 12, 2023. The Holloway Interim Housing Program will provide a safe and supportive space for individuals experiencing homelessness to stay for 90 days, providing residents with support and time to leave the street and access housing. The property will be managed and operated in a partnership with Ascencia, a nonprofit homeless services agency, which will provide comprehensive case management and support services, and ensure the safety of program participants .
In June 2022,the cityreceived a Homekey Grant from the State of California Housing and Community Development in the amount of $6,007,661, and the West Hollywood City Council unanimously approved the purchase of the property to be converted into a temporary housing program. Holloway's transitional housing program will be funded by state and regional resources supplemented by the city's Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
By purchasing the Holloway Motel and converting it into transitional housing, the City will make significant progress toward the goals of its Homeless Initiative, established in 2016, and double the number of transitional housing beds available for adults fast and cost-effective. Holloway's transitional housing program builds on more than 30 years of the city's efforts to partner with local agencies to provide social services to homeless community members. It is designed to meet the unique needs of its community members, building on the city's proud history of inclusiveness and empathy in service delivery.
The City of West Hollywood is committed to providing comprehensive assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness and meeting the needs of its diverse community. The Citys Homeless Initiative combats homelessness with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary, multi-agency response, working in close partnership with nonprofit social service providers, the West Hollywood Sheriffs Station and Los Angeles County agencies.
