Community invited to reflect on Red Dress Day with events and workshops – The Brock News

The Brock and broader Niagara communities are invited to attend a day of events encouraging reflection on National Awareness Day for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, also known as Red Dress Day , which will take place on Sunday, May 5.

Hosted by the City of St. Catharines, the St. Catharines Downtown Association, the Niagara Regional Native Center and De Dwa Da Dehs Nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre, the day's activities are hosted in partnership with Brocks Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing. Arts (MIWSFPA) and Office of the Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement.

The day will begin with a traditional gathering featuring drumming and medicinal ties at 11 a.m. at Willowbank Estate in Queenston, followed by a community march through downtown St. Catharines beginning at 2 p.m. at City Hall in St. Catharines and ending at MIWSFPA.

All are invited to attend an Indigenous Makers Market at the MIWSFPA Visual Arts Gallery and Student Exhibition Space from noon to 4:30 p.m. Pre-recorded workshops on ribbon skirts and clutches to medications (fully registered) will also take place at the downtown arts school throughout the day. the day.
