Azamgarh is considered a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav, former chief minister, had won there in 2019 but left the constituency in 2022 to take on the BJP as leader of opposition in the state Assembly . He is contesting from the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat this time.
