George Conway slams CNN's coverage of Donald Trump trial: 'It's just wrong'

Conservative commentator George Conway criticized CNN for its coverage of former President Trump's secret trial, criticizing the network for what he claimed was allowing right-wing “lies” to be broadcast on the air.

Conway, the former Trump ally turned outspoken critic, reflected on his tense conversation on CNN last week with Scott Jennings, a conservative commentator, about Trump's hush money conviction, in which he accused Jennings of “lying” about the accusations.

And then on CNN in general – I know some people complain about some of the reporting on MSNBC – but particularly on CNN,” he continued, “I had the impression during the trial that people had an impression deeply misleading about what was happening. what was actually happening in the courtroom, and they were given… sort of verbatim summaries of what was being asked and what was being answered.

Conway sparred with Jennings on Friday during a CNN panel in reaction to Trump's conviction on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York.

Conway, during the panel, claimed the GOP had demonstrated “moral rot” and argued that Trump was “not the victim” and “had done all these things to himself.”

CNN anchor Kasie Hunt then asked Jennings where the Republican Party stands today, and he said he disagrees with “a number” of Conway's arguments.

“He talks about the obvious crimes that were allegedly committed, but that's the heart of what drives a lot of decidedly non-MAGA Republicans crazy, is that there's no underlying crime,” said Jennings.

Jennings then compared attitudes after Trump's verdict to those following Senate hearings focused on sexual assault allegations against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and argued that the conviction would “backfire on the democrats on the political level.

Sighing, Conway shook his head and said, “Look, I mean, you know, Scott is lying, and that's the Republican Party's problem. He is continually addicted to lies.

The two engaged in back-and-forth discussions about claims about the GOP before Hunt intervened and urged Conway to be respectful to Jennings.

Conway told Sargent he “finally decided” to say something about what he called a repeat of the lies of some CNN pundits.

“The idea that he [Jennings] the fact as a paid contributor to CNN, that's really my goat, and frankly, it's the goat of the people at CNN,” Conway said, later adding, “I'm willing to say more, including today, because I think it's a problem. … I understand CNN's problem, and I don't want to suggest that they're doing it for a nefarious reason – at least the producers there and the journalists there, who I respect enormously. But I think there is a problem, and I'm not exactly sure of the solution other than reporting it. »

Conway claimed he received fewer invitations to comment on CNN following his criticism of Trump.

“When Chris Licht was running CNN, you know, I had been doing it for a long time, I was getting tons of requests from CNN. Maybe I won't get any after today, but I don't care, I don't get paid. It’s all good,” Conway said.

The Republican commentator recounted making an appearance on CNN after Trump's appearance in New York and noted that he “probably said the wrong words, because the words I said were, 'Well, Donald Trump is a narcissistic psychopath.'”
