kyiv has rejected “insane Russian propaganda” that Ukraine is considering nuclear attacks.
Moscow has accused Ukraine – without providing any evidence – of preparing to attack the Kursk nuclear power plant and of developing a “dirty bomb”, an explosive used to disperse radioactive waste.
The Russian Defense Ministry said Ukraine would blame Moscow and respond harshly in the event of such an attack.
These allegations are “dangerous lies” and Ukraine officially denies them, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said.
“We are witnessing a new wave of insane Russian propaganda.”
He continued: “Ukraine has neither the intention nor the ability to carry out such actions. Russia must stop spreading dangerous lies.
“Ukraine has always been and remains a loyal member of the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty).
“We do not have any 'dirty bombs' and have no intention of acquiring any.”
Vladimir Putin made similar allegations shortly before launching the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Then, in March of that year, Moscow claimed that Ukraine would use a dirty bomb. None of these claims have been confirmed.
Russia also claimed that a Ukrainian drone dropped an explosive charge on a road outside the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine this morning.
Its Russian leadership posted on Telegram a picture showing several men wearing IAEA vests surrounding a bump in the road the width and depth of a pothole.
Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of trying to hit the power plant using drones and rockets since its occupation by Russia.
