Gibran hands out free bikes and talks ‘like a presidential candidate debate’
Vice President (Wapres) Gibran Rakabuming Raka presented gifts in the form of two bicycles to students while attending the public recitation “KH Abdul Wahab Chasbullah’s 55th Haul” at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Foundation, Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java, Sunday (10/5/2026).
During his speech, Gibran asked the committee to bring two bicycles to the front of the stage. He then invited two students to come forward and answer one of his questions.
“What makes you proud to be a student?” » Gibran asked the two student representatives.
The first student, Ahmad Alfiro Ismail, originally from Magelang, answered the question loud and clear. He explained that his pride as a santri was based on three main values of Islamic boarding schools.
“I am proud to be a santri, to have morals, knowledge and also to participate,” said Ahmad, who was immediately greeted with loud applause from the audience.

Hearing this coherent and convincing response, Vice President Gibran also praised and made a joke which immediately lightened the atmosphere.
“Wow, this is like a presidential candidate debate,” Gibran joked.
Meanwhile, a student from Jombang named Indi Febrianti Valentina gave her views.
“I am proud to be a santri because a santri, as a santri, must be useful in society,” Indi explained.
This method of bicycle distribution is often used by Gibran’s father, who is also the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jokowi, when he visits the regions.
