Opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday announced nationwide protests against rising inflation, rising fuel prices, alleged lawlessness and continued detention of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan.
PTI chief Asad Qaiser, speaking to the media outside Parliament along with other party leaders, said the parliamentary party had been taken into confidence about the party’s future course of action and had fully endorsed the four-point program of the alliance.
“We have decided to hold protests across the country this Friday against inflation, massive increase in oil prices, severe power cuts, especially the law and order situation, and the inhumane treatment meted out to Imran Khan, including denial of his civil rights and government negligence regarding his health,” he said.

Qaiser called the lack of quorum in parliament a sign of the government’s non-serious attitude and warned that if the situation persists, “we will not allow this parliament to function.”
He claimed that the government planned to impose new taxes of Rs 17,000 billion in the next budget, which would trigger a new round of inflation.
“At present, all tax collection is from wage earners, and you can see that farmers, laborers and the salaried class have been affected by economic policies, while the middle class has virtually been eliminated,” he said, blaming the failure of government policies for the situation.
Expressing concern over the state of justice in the country, the former National Assembly Speaker said serious human rights violations were taking place and alleged that the treatment meted out to PTI leaders in jail, including Imran and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, amounted to serious human rights violations.
“We believe that Imran Khan should get justice, and if all the charges against him are heard on merits, Imran Khan will not stay in jail for even a single day, nor will his wife or the party leadership,” he said.
The PTI chief termed the government’s policy a complete failure and expressed concern over the security situation in the country, especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
“In my province we are facing a serious challenge of terrorism, and this terrorism is the result of an irresponsible foreign policy, because of which terrorism is increasing and unemployment is increasing because our businesses are strongly linked to trade with Afghanistan,” he said.
He demanded an end to what he called unfair treatment of Imran, saying he should get justice, his cases should be heard on merits and as per prison rules, he should be shifted to hospital.
Qaiser also demanded that the government remove tax on petroleum and end severe power load shedding across the country, especially in KP.
TTAP leader and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai earlier said in an article on X that the decision to protest was taken at a summit of the alliance’s leaders.
He added that the protests would also demand immediate transfer of Imran to hospital and release of political prisoners.

In February, it was revealed in a report prepared by lawyer Salman Safdar on the Supreme Court ruling that Imran had informed authorities that his right eye was functioning at only 15% of its capacity. Safdar submitted the report to a two-member bench.
Accordingly, the SC ordered that Imran should have access to his personal doctors in Adiala jail. Later, a medical board examining Imran reported improvement in his eyesight and did not recommend transferring him to hospital.
In late January, Imran was first taken to hospital for a minor eye procedure. Five days later, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said doctors at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) conducted an eye examination and, after obtaining his written consent, carried out a minor medical procedure that lasted about 20 minutes.
Amid controversy surrounding the eye treatment, PIMS confirmed that Imran received an intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF to treat right central retinal vein occlusion.
In March, another medical examination was conducted in Adiala, following which PIMS said Imran showed significant improvement in his vision after his second dose of intravitreal anti-VEGF injection. The third dose was then administered on March 23.

Bushra Bibi also underwent a medical examination in Adiala in March after complaining of pain in her right eye. She was reportedly examined by Dr Muhammad Arif Khan, head of the ophthalmology department at PIMS.
The medical report indicated that she had blurred vision and black spots in her right eye; she also reported seeing lightning in the dark and said she suffered headaches. Bushra Bibi was diagnosed with posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) in her right eye.
The report also identified myopia and astigmatism. After the diagnosis, Bushra Bibi was prescribed eye drops and medication, as well as wearing glasses. He was reportedly recommended a follow-up medical examination after four weeks.
The former first lady then underwent eye surgery on the evening of April 16.
Imran and Bushra Bibi remain incarcerated in Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi. They were sentenced on December 20, 2025, to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-II case, which concerns allegations that the couple illegally kept a Bulgari jewelry set given by the Saudi crown prince during an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
Imran has been in custody since August 2023 and is serving a sentence in a £190 million corruption case. He also faces ongoing trials under the anti-terrorism law in connection with the May 9, 2023 protests.
