‘Love India’: Trump joins US 250th Independence celebration in Delhi via call, congratulates PM Modi
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor called on US President Donald Trump during the 250th Independence anniversary celebrations in Delhi, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also present during the interaction in which Trump praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
US President Donald Trump said: “India can count on me 100%. If they need help, they know where to call. They call here. We’re doing well.”
“We are setting records. We have a record economy, a record stock market and everything that India wants to achieve. I am a big fan of Prime Minister Modi… Marco is the greatest. He is considered the greatest Secretary of State in the history of the United States… Say hello to Prime Minister Modi and let him know that I am a big fan…”

What Rubio said about Jaishankar and India
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar at a joint press conference, while highlighting the growing strategic partnership between India and the United States.
“…Dr. S. Jaishankar of EAM has been phenomenal. He is a truly wise man who is doing incredible work on behalf of your country and someone for whom I have enormous esteem and respect,” Rubio said.
“I thank you both for the welcome and the hospitality that we have received from everyone here in India and from all the leaders of your government, and in particular from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who has become someone I have known very well… When I became Secretary of State, I took the oath of office at noon or 11 a.m. after the inauguration.”
“I immediately went to the State Department and the first meeting that I had was with a group of four countries known as the Quad and one of the people that I met on the very first day and interacted with so many times was Dr. S. Important points discussed during Rubio’s visit
Addressing the joint press conference, Rubio said relations between the two democracies go beyond conventional diplomatic engagement and reflect a deep strategic alignment on global challenges.
“A strategic partnership is something very different,” Rubio said. “A strategic partnership is when your interests as two nations are aligned and you work together strategically to solve these problems.”
Highlighting the breadth of bilateral cooperation, Rubio added: “The list of issues that we are working on with India, the breadth of them, is what highlights the fact that India is an important strategic partner of the United States, one of our most important strategic partners in the world.”
Rubio also highlighted the democratic values shared between the two countries, saying: “Democracies respond directly to their people, and you have to respond constantly.”
Regarding security cooperation, the US Secretary of State highlighted the strong counter-terrorism partnership between Washington and New Delhi. “On the issue of terrorism, both our countries have suffered, directly and indirectly, because of global terrorist networks. This has given rise to a strong counterterrorism alignment,” Rubio said.
He also highlighted growing collaboration in technology and innovation, saying the two countries agreed to balance opportunities and risks arising from new technologies in the 21st century. “There is a formidable strategic alliance between our countries and an agreement on this point,” he stressed.
