Trump news at a glance: Iran signals ‘bad faith’ US strikes won’t hamper peace talks as Trump calls rare cabinet meeting | Trump administration

A proposed peace deal between Iran and the United States appeared to remain on the table Tuesday despite U.S. bombing of Iranian targets.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry denounced the US attack – targeting missile launchers and efforts to lay new mines in the Strait of Hormuz – as “an act of bad faith” and “a definitive violation of the ceasefire” and said it would not let the aggression go unanswered. But he did not withdraw from the talks which are continuing under the joint mediation of Pakistan and Qatar.

Iran’s military has not announced any specific retaliation, suggesting it did not want the attack – which killed four Iranian soldiers – to disrupt the delicate final steps toward a deal it intends to hail as one of the great milestones in the history of Iranian resistance. Brent oil futures rose 4% after news of renewed fighting.

In a sign that Donald Trump recognizes that the conflict has reached a turning point, he was scheduled to convene a rare cabinet meeting at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland, but he said Tuesday on Truth Social that that meeting had been postponed due to bad weather.

Iran remains in peace talks despite first US strikes since ceasefire

As Trump continued to question how a planned peace deal would achieve the goals he set at the start of the war, he appeared to copy and paste a rambling social media post from last week that claimed Democrats and the media would declare an Iranian victory even if Tehran “surrenders, admits that its navy is gone and lies at the bottom of the sea, and its air force is no longer with us, and if its entire army leaves Tehran, weapons dropped and hands raised, everyone shouting “I surrender, I surrender” while wildly waving the representative white flag.
