Gerindra responds to Prabowo sacrificial cow controversy using APBN – National
According to Bahtra, presidential community assistance is not new in Indonesian government practice and has been implemented in previous governments, including during the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“During the previous presidential era, there was also aid in the form of presidential sacrificial cows which were distributed to various regions through state mechanisms and facilitated by the Presidential Secretariat,” he said.
“Apart from this, in the past, the President’s community assistance also included basic food assistance, assistance for habitable housing, assistance to disaster victims, education assistance, health assistance, assistance to places of worship, as well as welfare assistance to disadvantaged communities. So don’t form an opinion as if a program like this only exists now,” Bahtra added.
Previously, Prabowo offered 1,098 cows as sacrifice to commemorate the 2026 Eid al-Adha holiday.
The total budget disbursed for the sacrifice reached IDR 100 billion.
Deputy Secretary of State Juri Ardiantoro explained that the source of the funds came from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) through the Presidential Community Assistance Post.
“The price of livestock varies because the weight is different and the location also of course influences the price of livestock. We adjust the price in each region, the budget spent is IDR 100 billion,” Juri told the media team, Tuesday (05/26/2026).
In this case, the sacrificial cow will be given to two types of recipients. First, all provinces, districts and municipalities. In this case, 598 head of livestock will be distributed to 552 regions, consisting of 38 provinces and 514 districts/cities.
The jury pointed out that the number of awarded cows was higher than in other regions of Indonesia. This is because there are 46 regions that do not have presidential standard-sized cows.
Thus, these 46 zones received two cows. Please note that the standard weight of presidential livestock is 800 kilograms per 1.3 tons.
Secondly, 500 sacrificial cows will also be handed over to educational institutions, Islamic boarding schools, community leaders and religious leaders. Thus, the total number of cows sacrificed by the head of state amounts to 1,098 cows.
