PM Modi hails sports records, wildlife rescue
On May 31, in the latest 134th edition of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted several iinspiring stories from across the country, ranging from accomplishments in athletics to wildlife conservation and community service.
Athletes break records and inspire a new generation
One of the key topics of the program was India’s growing success in athletics. Referring to the National Senior Athletics Federation competition in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Modi congratulated sprinters Gurinder Veer Singh and Animesh Kujur, who broke the national record in men’s 100 meters multiple times in two days.
In a conversation with the athletes, both spoke about how family support, hard work and determination helped them succeed despite doubts that Indians would not be able to compete at the highest level in sprint events. Modi appreciated their friendship and healthy rivalry, saying their achievements would inspire many young athletes.
Interest in astronomy is growing across India
The Prime Minister also spoke about the growing popularity of astronomy among young people. He mentioned organizations like the Bangalore Astronomical Society, Astro Kerala, Big Bang Astronomy Club of Rajkot, Jyotirvidya Parisanstha and ISAAC, which help students learn about space and the universe.
He encouraged young people to join astronomy clubs and visit planetariums while on vacation.
Special mention for saving dolphins
Modi praised a rescue operation in Uttar Pradesh, in which a Ganges dolphin trapped in a canal was safely rescued after hours of effort. He said India’s first Ganga Dolphin Rescue Ambulance, developed under the Namami Gange Campaign, played a crucial role in saving the animal.
The dolphin was treated and released into the Rapti River. Modi said protecting dolphins is important to maintain the biodiversity of the Ganges ecosystem.
Unique contribution of Tamil Nadu teachers
The Prime Minister also shared the story of Girija Amma, an educationist from Tamil Nadu who inspired students of her schools to contribute one rupee per day for the welfare of Indian soldiers.
The initiative has collected nearly ₹40 lakh over a year. Modi appreciated his patriotic spirit and praised the students for supporting the country’s armed forces through small but meaningful contributions.
Apart from these stories, Modi highlighted the efforts of citizens working to clean rivers, improve water supply and serve society. He said such initiatives reflect the power of common people to bring about positive change and strengthen the nation through collective effort.
