PTI leaders again denied meeting Imran and warned of a sit-in in front of the NA on 10

PESHAWAR – Aleema Khan, sister of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, said on Tuesday that the only acceptable deal would be the restoration of an independent judiciary and the holding of free and fair elections in the country as authorities once again refused her to meet her brother.

Speaking to media outside Adiala jail, Aleema said it was their constitutional right to meet Imran. She promised to continue visiting Adiala, saying it was the only way to put pressure on the powers that be. “Imran’s family and party leaders will continue their efforts for an independent judiciary and free media,” she said. Responding to a question regarding rumors of a meeting between the PTI founder and a former military chief, she dismissed the claims as politically motivated.

“No such meeting took place and such rumors circulate whenever the political temperature rises. » Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Tuesday demanded that he and his finance advisor be allowed to meet former Prime Minister Imran Khan in prison, arguing that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had entrusted their mandate to Imran Khan and that the provincial government was functioning on the basis of this public trust and political mandate.

He maintained that in light of this reality, it was both appropriate and necessary that the budget proposals for the next financial year be shared with Imran Khan and his input obtained before the finalization of the provincial budget.

The CM further announced that a petition would be filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking permission for the meeting. Speaking to media representatives outside Adiala Prison, Muhammad Sohail Afridi warned that continued efforts to deny access to Imran Khan and further restrictions on the PTI’s political leadership would have serious political consequences.

He said that if such measures persist, PTI parliamentarians from across the country will stage a sit-in in front of the National Assembly on June 10. He further asserted that under these circumstances, the party would also oppose the passage of the federal budget.

The CM maintained that Imran Khan continues to be held in prolonged solitary confinement. He requested that Imran Khan receive medical treatment at Shifa International Hospital under the supervision of his personal doctors and in the presence of his family members. He stressed that this request was neither unconstitutional nor illegal, saying that access to appropriate medical care is a fundamental right.

The CM expressed deep concern over the continued denial of access to Imran Khan by his family members and party leaders. He said preventing family, party officials and personal doctors from meeting Imran Khan raises legitimate concerns and gives the impression that there are attempts to harm him. He further reiterated that Imran Khan remains the undisputed leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government derives its mandate and legitimacy from his leadership. He noted that if Imran Khan decided that a particular person should no longer hold the post of Chief Minister, that person would cease to hold that post.

Commenting on the performance of the federal government, Muhammad Sohail Afridi said the federal administration had failed to meet its revenue and taxation targets. He argued that due to policy failures, Pakistan’s public debt had increased from around Rs. 43 trillion to Rs. 97 trillion in the last four years. He added that while the federal government might succeed in getting Parliament’s approval for the next budget, its economic burden would ultimately be borne by ordinary citizens. He pointed to rising unemployment, industrial decline, declining business activity and persistent inflation as evidence of deteriorating economic conditions.

The CM also criticized the policy direction of the federal government, saying it lacked both an effective internal governance framework and a coherent approach to foreign policy.

Referring to the upcoming provincial budget, he said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet had approved the budget proposals and the provincial budget would be balanced, people-centric and aligned with key development priorities.

He noted that special emphasis had been placed on health, education, environmental sustainability and agriculture.

He added that the provincial government remained committed to investing in human development in line with Imran Khan’s vision. Muhammad Sohail Afridi further said that the upcoming federal budget would amount to an economic shock to the public and put additional financial pressures on citizens already facing significant economic hardship.

Commenting on the upcoming elections in Gilgit Baltistan, the chief minister said public support remained overwhelmingly in favor of Imran Khan and no other political figure could hold a comparable mandate. He said the growing popular mobilization across Gilgit Baltistan had destabilized those currently in power and clarified that truly free, fair and transparent elections would clearly reflect the will of the people. He also criticized the government’s handling of political dissent, referring to incidents in which PTI workers and supporters were killed, including during the November 26 events and in Muridke. He alleged that individuals responsible for misgovernance and looting of the country had been imposed on the public and had become a burden on the state.

The Chief Minister maintained that public discontent extends not only to those currently ruling but also to those who facilitated their rise to power. Muhammad Sohail Afridi said that despite his imprisonment, Imran Khan continues to enjoy unprecedented public support across Pakistan and remains the country’s most influential political figure.
