Women’s tennis ranks sixth in the year-end ITA Atlantic Region rankings
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2025-2026 year-end Atlantic Regional Rankings on Wednesday, with the Navy women’s tennis team finishing at No. 6 in the region’s final team rankings.
Coming off their second Patriot League championship in program history, the Midshipmen won 18 of their last 20 games while earning several major conference honors and making league history in the NCAA Tournament.
This marks the fifth time in program history that the Midshipmen have achieved a year-end ranking in the region and is the highest-ranked finish for the Mids in program history. Navy ranked 10th in the Atlantic region after the 2017-18, 2012-13, 2020-21 and 2023-24 seasons.
Under head coach Keith Puryearthe Mids posted a 23-6 record in one of their toughest schedules to date, including an impressive 18-1 mark at home and a 5-1 win in Patriot League play. Defeating Army for the fourth time in five years in the Star Match, Navy then outlasted the Black Knights in the semifinals of the competition and defeated top-seeded Boston University in the finals to claim its second league title in three seasons. The Mids ended the season by pushing No. 21 UCF to the limit in a 4-1 loss in the NCAA first round as a sophomore. Peyton Amspacher-Filemon was able to score an outright victory in singles, marking the first time a Patriot League women’s tennis team had scored a point in an NCAA Tournament match.
Besides championship MVP Nicole Fu winning Patriot League Rookie of the Year and Navy taking home Patriot League Coaching Staff of the Year, Fu and Sophomores Emma Gu were named to the All-Patriot League First Team and sophomore Grace Lee received a nod to the All-Patriot League Second Team.
The Mids were one of three Patriot League teams to appear in the ITA regional rankings, with Boston U. coming in at No. 9 and rival Army at No. 10 in the New England region team rankings.
