India remains fastest growing major economy despite global uncertainty: PM Modi on latest GDP figures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised India’s economic performance following the release of the latest GDP growth figures, saying the country remains the world’s fastest-growing major economy despite growing uncertainty in the global economy.
Addressing a gathering in Daman, Modi said India recorded a growth rate of 7.7 per cent in FY26, while the economy grew by 7.8 per cent in the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2026, reflecting the strength of reforms, infrastructure development and social measures undertaken by his government. “In FY26, India achieved a growth rate of 7.7 percent. In the last quarter, the growth was 7.8 percent. It is the fastest growing economy in the world. This speed will make every Indian proud,” Modi said.
“These numbers show how strong the foundations of the Indian economy are,” Modi added. The prime minister attributed the country’s economic performance to sustained reforms, rapid infrastructure expansion and social programs aimed at the poor. “Today, the country is witnessing a wave of reforms. Infrastructure development and pro-poor social work go hand in hand. All this has made India the fastest growing among major economies,” he said.
Referring to global economic woes, Modi said many countries were grappling with uncertainty, but India had managed to maintain growth and stay ahead of other major economies. “Everyone knows that the world is surrounded by dangers. The world’s economies are buried under question marks. In this time of global danger, India is not only managing itself, but is also succeeding in its efforts to stay ahead of everyone else,” he said. Modi said his government would continue to pursue policies to support economic growth and development. “I want to reassure the country that we will continue to move forward quickly and in the same way,” he said.
