Erdogan: Turkey exports warship to NATO, EU member state for first time

Turkey has exported a military ship to a NATO and European Union member state for the first time in its history under a sales agreement with Romania.
This was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Anadolu Agency.
During a ceremony organized in a shipyard in Istanbul, in the presence of Romanian President Nicușor Dan, the patrol ship CAm. Roman was officially delivered to the Romanian Navy. At the same time, the Turkish Navy commissioned the TCG Kochisar patrol boat.

Record achievements in the defense industry
Erdogan said Turkey’s defense industry has become a driving force behind the vision of a “bigger and stronger Turkey”, despite sanctions and restrictions imposed over the past two decades.
He noted that the country is now the world’s 11th largest exporter of defense products and last month achieved a record defense export of $996 million.
“Turkey is among the countries capable of simultaneously building the largest number of military ships,” the president said.
The country is currently building more than 50 military ships, including more than 15 for allied and friendly countries. More than 80% of components are produced locally.
Strengthening cooperation with Romania
Erdogan stressed that the increasingly complex international security environment made closer cooperation between allies essential.
“The challenging global security environment makes it vital for friends and allies to strengthen their cooperation. With this in mind, we consider it our duty to share the capabilities of our defense industry with friendly countries,” he said.
The President described relations between Turkey and Romania as stronger than ever, recalling that they were elevated to a strategic partnership in 2011 and further institutionalized in 2024 through the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
“Corvette CAM. Roman is the clearest proof of the determination of two allied nations to jointly build security in the Black Sea and our region,” Erdogan said.
He also highlighted the trilateral cooperation between Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria, particularly in the fight against marine mines in the Black Sea.
According to Erdogan, the combat management system, surveillance and fire control radars, sonar systems and close defense systems of the ships were developed by Turkish companies such as ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, HAVELSAN, Makine Kimya and TÜBİTAK.
“Our goal is peace through strength”
The Turkish president said Ankara was not seeking conflict or confrontation, but was focusing on peace, stability and cooperation.
“We do not seek crises, chaos or confrontation with anyone. We prefer strong cooperation based on mutual respect,” Erdogan said.
He stressed that Turkey has no territorial claims against other countries, but will not allow its sovereignty or national interests to be threatened. | BGNES
