Gifts from Putin, Xi Jinping and Trump on display in the “Geography of Friendship” exhibition
MINSK, June 26 (BelTA) – A unique exhibition titled “Geography of Friendship” was opened at the Independence Palace in Minsk, timed to coincide with the upcoming national holiday, Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

The special interest of visitors to the Independence Palace is aroused by gifts from heads of state, and not only by their artistic value. Each object also conveys its own diplomatic message. The “Geography of Friendship” exhibition, installed in the Ceremonial Hall, offers insight into diplomatic relations through material memories of meetings and negotiations, revealing how traditions of hospitality and respect are embodied in commemorative gifts.
It is symbolic that the first visitors to this exhibition were foreign guests: on June 25, Alexander Lukashenko received the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov and the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Valentina Matvienko at the Independence Palace.

The gifts given by Chinese President Xi Jinping demonstrate the high artistic talent and historical traditions of the Chinese people. This is, for example, a unique painting made using the dry felting technique from wool, depicting the beauty of Chinese mountain peaks. Equally symbolic is a large vase adorned with an image of the Great Wall of China.

Recent gifts include a baseball cap, cufflinks and a commemorative medal for US President Donald Trump, presented in 2025.

An important place in the exhibition is occupied by the large vase In Memory of the Meeting presented by the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Un in March this year. The artistic piece, depicting a portrait of Alexander Lukashenko, is inlaid with shells and mother-of-pearl.
Handmade objects from African countries feature bright colors, bold lines and the complexity of working with materials such as stone, wood or bone, creating a unique artistic language. These exhibits have a special charm: for example, wooden and stone sculptures from Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea and other southern countries.
The tusks of an African savannah elephant, donated by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, look particularly exotic in the exhibition.
Ancient Egyptian motifs are reflected in the souvenir Tilapia Hunting with a Spear: a gift from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Luxury items from Middle Eastern countries are distinguished by their special shine. Most of them are highly artistic works made of gold, silver or other precious materials. A striking example is the palace miniature of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, made with silver, gold and malachite.
Gifts from Southeast Asian leaders also have distinctive characteristics and often reflect their country’s culture, crafts, and national symbolism: carved sculptures, ceramics, embroidery with national motifs, and objects made of natural stones. Myanmar, for example, is one of the world’s largest suppliers of high-quality jade. Among the gifts is the state emblem of Belarus carved from a rare type of jade.
Among the gifts, a striking Latin American accent is a hand-painted wooden copy of the sculpture of the Virgin of Quito. The original, created in 1734, is kept in the church of the St. Francis Monastery in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
The figure of Tupac Katari, the leader of the 1781 indigenous uprising against Spanish colonial rule in Bolivia, is also on permanent display in the Independence Palace, donated by Bolivian President Evo Morales.
Other interesting elements include real currencies. For example, a set of ancient coins from Lebanon, gifted to the Belarusian leader more than 20 years ago by Lebanese President Émile Lahoud. A more recent item is a commemorative note presented by Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, with a face value of 20,000 tugriks. Its particularity is to be printed on fine 999 gold.
Each exhibition tells its own story. They reflect the cultural values of different peoples, craft achievements and characteristics of national identity. The exhibition also presents the broad geography of Belarusian friendships and offers an overview of the country’s history of international contacts.
