Donald Trump pays tribute to Victor Willis of the Village People

Donald Trump paid tribute to Victor Willis, the leader of the group Village People, who died Monday.

The Village People’s song YMCA saw renewed interest after being used at Trump rallies. Willis, a co-writer of the song, said he initially opposed the campaign’s use of the song, but that Trump’s team obtained a political use license from the advocacy organization BMI. But he ultimately didn’t withdraw his permission, writing on Facebook in 2024: “I just didn’t have the heart to stop him from continuing to use my song in the face of so many artists withdrawing his use of their material.” »

Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday morning: “Village People singer Victor Willis has died at age 74. He was a great, happy guy who loved it when I used his band’s song, YMCA, at my rallies. It became a ‘monstrous’ hit again, 30 years after it was originally released. Many singers and bands wanted to come to the rallies after all the rally attendance records were set. The crowds were and are huge. But Victor and the group were there for us from the start.”

Willis wrote on Facebook in 2024 that the YMCA “benefited greatly from the President-elect’s use. For example, the YMCA was stuck at No. 2 on the Billboard chart before the President-elect’s use. However, the song eventually reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart after over 45 years (and remained at No. 1 for two weeks) due to the President-elect’s use.” Willis co-wrote the song with Jacques Morali, who died in 1991.

He added, “The financial benefits have been significant and the YMCA is expected to bring in several million dollars from the President-elect’s continued use of the song. Therefore, I am pleased to have allowed the President-elect to continue to use the YMCA and thank him for choosing to use my song.”

Willis also wrote that it was a “false assumption” that the song was a gay anthem, denying interpretations of its lyrics. He threatened to sue media outlets that claimed this was the case, but wrote: “I don’t mind that gays consider the song their anthem.” »

The song was recently played at Trump’s rally last week to open the Great American State Fair.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
