PTI says Imran Khan’s release remains main goal

PTI leaders Salman Akram Raja and Junaid Akbar Khan on Thursday said the release of Imran Khan remained the party’s main objective. They also criticized the government and discussed the political situation in Punjab and Balochistan.

LAHORE/QUETTA: Top Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders said on Thursday the party remained focused on freeing former Prime Minister Imran Khan, rejecting criticism that it had strayed from its central policy goal.

In separate media interactions in Lahore and Quetta, PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja and party’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter president Junaid Akbar Khan said the party was still seeking freedom for Imran Khan, while also criticizing the government and the overall political situation.

Raja rejects claims that PTI was silenced

Speaking to reporters at the Lahore Press Club, Raja rejected the suggestion that the PTI had been suppressed or silenced. He said critics claiming the party had been marginalized ignored political realities and argued that the PTI had become a major social force in the country.

Speaking to the press alongside local PTI leaders, including Lahore President Mian Akram Usman, Raja said the party had endured political repression, mistreatment of its leaders and workers, and harassment of their families. He said the leaders did not back down and remained in what he described as a protest mode.

He also warned that public anger was growing and said the party would continue to challenge what it calls a system of oppression. Referring to future plans, Raja said the PTI could also launch a Bharo Tehreek jail if necessary.

Commenting on the solitary confinement of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, Raja said those in power should curb what he described as excesses, adding that such actions were against laws in Pakistan and abroad.

Junaid Akbar speaks on Balochistan and alliance ties

In Quetta, Junaid Akbar Khan spoke to reporters after meeting PTI officials and senior members of the Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan alliance. He said the party’s ultimate objective remained the struggle for the release of Imran Khan, alongside the restoration of democracy and what he called true freedom.

Junaid Akbar, who is also the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly, described Balochistan as a guarantor of Pakistan’s stability and called it one of the most important and beautiful regions of the country. He said the province had abundant natural resources, strategic location, border links, Gwadar port and ample opportunities.

At the same time, he said weak governance had left residents deprived of basic necessities, including food, clothing, shelter and clean water. Terming the situation in Balochistan as deeply disturbing, he expressed concern over the ongoing developments in the province.

He said the answer to these problems lay in the rule of law, constitutional supremacy and democracy, adding that authority in Balochistan should rest with those who have public trust. Talking about his meeting with Akhtar Mengal, Junaid Akbar said the BNP-M leader remained an ally and the PTI would continue to work with him.
