Lawmakers hope trial will provide clarity on Jokowi’s degree issue

Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, hopes that the trial on the alleged defamation case regarding the diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held at the East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim) could end the controversy in society. He said the diploma affair had caused a lot of noise and was dragging on.
“This issue has been going on for quite a long time and has caused a stir in society. We hope that the trial can provide clarity so that this controversy can be completely resolved,” Abdallah told reporters on Friday (3/7/2026).

Abdullah said people should not waste their energy and thoughts debating issues that do not yet have legal certainty. He added that there were still many national issues that needed attention from all parties.
“Don’t let people get lost in unclear issues. There are still many important issues that need our collective attention,” he said.
He hopes that Jokowi’s diploma trial will be conducted smoothly and professionally. Thus, he continued, public attention is not only focused on Jokowi’s incomplete diploma.
“We entrust the matter entirely to law enforcement. Let the legal process proceed professionally, independently and in accordance with applicable regulations,” Abduh said.
“The most important thing is that this issue of qualifications must be resolved immediately so that it does not cause further unrest and the public can refocus on various important agendas for the progress of the nation,” he added.
The trial of Tifauzia Tyassuma alias Dr. Tifa regarding the alleged fake diploma case of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Jokowi took place. He was charged with criminal acts of slander and defamation against Jokowi following these accusations.
Dr. Tifa’s first trial took place at the East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim) last Thursday (2/7). Dr. Tifa allegedly used social media to spread information that Jokowi had a fake diploma while he was a civil servant.
Dr. Tifa rejected the offer to take a peaceful route regarding the accusations. Jokowi himself is reportedly ready to attend the next trial and show his original diploma.
