BAHAWALPUR: Senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan has termed the mistreatment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan as unconstitutional, illegal and a violation of human rights.

In his address to the Vehari District Bar Association on the occasion of the district’s golden jubilee celebrations, Aitzaz Ahsan lamented that the Pakistani judiciary had failed to meet the expectations of the people.

He added that in the current circumstances, the role of the Pakistani judiciary was disappointing, which raised questions about the Pakistani judiciary.

He said every citizen of the country had the right to speedy, impartial and independent justice, as the supremacy of law and constitution was the guarantee of a strong state. He said the supremacy of law and respect for the constitution must be ensured at all costs.

Mr. Ahsan urged the courts and judicial institutions to assume their responsibilities in order to restore the population’s confidence in them. He said lawyers have always played a pivotal role in safeguarding the constitution, law and democratic values ​​and expressed hope that they will continue their struggle for the supremacy of law and justice in the country.
