“Incitement to genocide”: Gideon Sa’ar responds to Turkish Foreign Minister condemning Israel
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar lashed out at Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Thursday evening following his comments that Israel was a “burden that humanity can no longer bear” during a television broadcast.
In an interview with CNN Türk, Fidan sharply attacked Israel and called for sanctions to be imposed against it.
“No matter how you look at it, there is no parameter to continue supporting these people,” exclaimed Fidan.
“Israel is not just Turkey’s problem, and it’s not just the president’s problem [Recep Tayyip] The Erdogan problem,” the Turkish foreign minister said. “These people have become a burden that humanity can no longer bear. Human consciousness cannot stand it, political systems cannot stand it, and economic systems cannot stand it either.
“Everyone must mobilize, adopt a diplomatic position and impose the necessary sanctions on these people,” he added.
“The sickening words of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan are a classic incitement to genocide,” Sa’ar responded in a message on X/Twitter.
“Dehumanizing the Jewish people by describing them as an ‘unbearable burden’ is the classic and horrific language of the worst eliminationist regimes in history. The civilized world and Turkey’s allies in NATO must unequivocally condemn this explicit call for the erasure of Israel,” he added.
Earlier in the same interview, Fidan discussed his country’s relations with the United States. The Turkish minister asserted that Washington was willing to lift CAATSA sanctions previously imposed on Ankara and that the United States considered Turkey a key partner and stabilizing force.
According to Fidan, the Trump administration is reassessing its foreign and security policy, as well as its relations with its allies, particularly in a context of competition with China.
Regarding mediation efforts in the Middle East, Fidan said the risk of a broader escalation remained high and that efforts to end the war amounted to a race against time.
He revealed that Turkey had maintained intensive communication channels and transmitted messages at the request of the parties, especially during exchanges of fire.
The minister praised the strategic cooperation with Qatar and Pakistan, adding that US President Donald Trump thanked the three countries for their contributions to the mediation process.
