COLOMBO, July 3 (Xinhua) — An event promoting the fifth volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” was held in COLOMBO on Friday.

Participants said that the fifth volume is an authoritative work that comprehensively and systematically reflects the latest achievements of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and helps the international community further deepen its understanding of China’s path, governance and philosophy.

Noting that China and Sri Lanka are fellow travelers on the path of modernization, the participants said the event bears important significance for the two countries to strengthen mutual understanding, build consensus, deepen cooperation and jointly build a China-Sri Lanka community with a shared future.

Addressing the event, Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne said the publication of the fifth volume provides valuable insights into China’s vision of governance, development, innovation and international cooperation. Beyond documenting China’s development experience, the book also demonstrates China’s deep thoughts on safeguarding world peace and promoting shared prosperity, he added.

Sri Lanka is willing to continue to expand exchanges and cooperation in all fields with China and promote further progress in the Sri Lanka-China strategic cooperative partnership based on sincere mutual assistance and enduring friendship, Wickramaratne said.

Madhura Senevirathna, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, said in her speech that the fifth volume presents a clear architecture for Chinese modernization, covering all areas, including economic development, scientific innovation, modern education and preservation of cultural heritage.

Any country seeking to modernize without losing its historical roots can learn valuable lessons from this book, he said.

Geeganage Weerasinghe, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, said in his speech that the achievements of the Communist Party of China in developing new quality productive forces, promoting high-quality development, realizing self-reliance and strength in science and technology, and building ecological civilization fully prove that the socialist system is capable of organizing modernization more effectively and better balancing fairness and efficiency.

During the event, the Chinese side handed over copies of the English edition of the fifth volume and the Sinhalese edition of the second volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” to the Sri Lankan guests.

Experts from the two countries exchanged views on topics such as national governance, green development, opening-up cooperation and Belt and Road cooperation.
