President Donald Trump will stop in South Dakota today for a fireworks display at Mount Rushmore. Tickets for this event were long gone before Trump even announced his visit. Still, I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to have just five minutes with the president to explain how his policy positions are making life more difficult for South Dakotans.

Thank you, Mr. President, for taking the time to see me. The first thing I want to address is the ROAD to 21st Century Housing Act. Currently, you are sitting on this bipartisan bill, refusing to sign it until Congress presents you with the SAVE America Act. You called the housing law “minor,” but that’s not the case in South Dakota.

As someone who made a fortune in real estate, you know how important it is for people to have decent, affordable housing. Right now, people in South Dakota and across the country are being stripped of their ability to own their own homes.

The housing law you refuse to sign includes many provisions that would work well in South Dakota. It removes regulatory barriers affecting the cost of housing, expands federal housing subsidies, increases the availability of small mortgages, and removes burdensome rules on manufactured housing.
