Khamenei’s three sons attend his funeral in Tehran – but not his successor

State television showed Mostafa, Meysam and Masoud Khamenei praying next to his coffin and those of four other members of his family in the Grand Mosalla of Imam Khomeini in Tehran.

Ayatollah Khamenei, along with several other members of his family, were killed in an airstrike when the United States and Israel launched war against Iran on February 28.

Three sons of slain Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei prayed Sunday next to his coffin and those of four other members of his family, but Mojtaba, the son who succeeded him as Iran’s supreme leader, did not make an appearance.

State television showed Mostafa, Meysam and Masoud Khamenei praying behind coffins arranged in the vast courtyard of Tehran’s Great Mosalla of Imam Khomeini, a vast religious complex.

Their father, along with several other family members, was killed in an airstrike when the United States and Israel launched war against Iran on February 28.

After a day spent lying in state indoors for visits from senior Iranian leaders and foreign officials, Khamenei’s coffin was displayed outside under glass on Saturday, along with those of his daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and 14-month-old granddaughter.

Iran, Qatar resume maritime trade, Iranian state media reports

Maritime trade between Iran and Qatar has resumed after a suspension of about five months, Iran’s trade attaché in Doha told state media on Sunday.

Abbas Abdolkhani said maritime transportation between the Iranian port of Dayyer and the Qatari port of Al Ruwais had resumed following coordination between the Iranian embassy in Doha and Qatari authorities.

Artist calls for Trump’s death at Khamenei funeral

An artist at the funeral of former Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei today called for the death of US President Donald Trump in front of a crowd of thousands in Tehran.

The performer, poet Mohammad Rasouli, shouted “Death to America!” » and “Death to Israel!” » as he addressed the crowd through loudspeakers at the funeral.

Rasouli said “the world is no longer a good place for” Trump.

Khamenei will be buried on Thursday

Ayatollah Khamenei’s body is expected to be transported to cities in Iran and neighboring Iraq.

On Thursday, he will be buried at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, Khamenei’s birthplace, state media said.

A prayer for the dead is planned today at the Grande Mosalla.

Then, on Monday, his body and those of his family will be carried through the streets of Tehran, which are also expected to draw large crowds.

Khamenei’s three sons attend funeral, not his successor

Three of Ali Khamenei’s sons attended the slain supreme leader’s funeral today and prayed next to his coffin, but Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the son who succeeded him, did not appear.

He was reportedly injured in the airstrike that killed his father on February 28, when Israel and the United States bombed Iranian targets.

Mojtaba is said to be in hiding, suffering serious injuries to his face and one or both legs, according to Reuters.

Ali Khamenei’s coffin was displayed outside under glass, alongside those of his daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and 14-month-old granddaughter.
