Jokowi’s response to the trampling of buffalo heads

The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), responded to controversy on social media after stepping on the head of a buffalo during a traditional procession in Lampung in late June 2026. Jokowi stressed that the ritual was part of cultural tradition and should not be linked to politics.

“Yes, it is a form of respect from the traditional community of Lampung. A form of respect from the Kedatun Palace of Lampung Kingdom and I feel honored to receive this award,” Jokowi told reporters at his residence, Jalan Kutai Utara, Number 1, Sumber Village, Banjarsari District, Solo City, Central Java, Tuesday (7/7/2026).

Jokowi asked all parties to respect local customs and wisdom. He hopes that this ritual does not necessarily have to be linked to political interests.

2. Roy Suryo’s pretrial granted and his arrest declared invalid

The Single Judge of the South Jakarta District Court (PN Jaksel) granted part of Roy Suryo Notodiprojo’s pre-trial request regarding the search, arrest and detention carried out by Polda Metro Jaya investigators in the investigation of the alleged defamation case of former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s fake diploma.

“During the trial, the plaintiff’s pre-trial request was partially granted,” said Single Pre-Trial Judge I Ketut Darpawan when reading his decision at the South Jakarta District Court, Tuesday (7/7/2026).

The judge said the search carried out by Polda Metro Jaya on Roy Suryo on June 18, 2026 was invalid. The judge also declared that the arrest and detention of Roy Suryo on June 19, 2026 was illegal.

3. Prabowo, PM Modi to inaugurate Prambanan Temple conservation project

President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Prambanan Temple Complex Conservation Project in Yogyakarta. The agenda is part of a series of state visits by Prime Minister Modi to Indonesia.

President Prabowo highlighted that the restoration and conservation project of the UNESCO World Heritage Site is a strong symbol of the historical and civilizational ties between Indonesia and India.

“We welcome the restoration and conservation of the Prambanan Temple Complex, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These various initiatives reflect the long-standing civilizational ties between Indonesia and India,” President Prabowo said at Merdeka Palace, Tuesday (7/7/2026).

4. Gerindra supports PSI’s goal of controlling the electoral base in Central Java

The Gerindra Party casually responded to the Indonesian Solidarity Party’s (PSI) goal of making Central Java an “elephant enclosure” or the party’s main support base. Gerindra believes that each political party has the right to set political goals to expand its electoral base.

Chairman of the Honorary Council of the Gerindra Party, Ahmad Muzani, said that the wishes of the PSI were normal in a democratic dynamic. According to him, each party must have a vision and determination to fight for the aspirations of the people of different regions.

5. National Police Names 2 Corruption Suspects Over Assembagoes Sugar Factory Project

The National Police Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipidkor) named two suspects in the alleged project corruption case engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning (EPCC) development and modernization of the Assembagoes Sugar Factory, Situbondo at PTPN XI for the period 2016-2022.

“This case is part of law enforcement efforts regarding national strategic projects financed by state funds,” said Head of Operations of Kortas Tipidkor Polri, Pol Kombes Ahmad Yusuf Afandi during a press conference at the Police Criminal Investigation Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (7/7/2026).

Yusuf discussed efforts to increase national sugar production capacity, improve production quality and support national food security. This effort was achieved through state capital participation of IDR 650 billion, with an allocation for the development of the Assembagoes sugar factory of approximately IDR 250 billion.
